A compact makeover
Emily and Karen came to us for advice on their rather awkward triangular outside space of about 15 square metres. It was a very shady, damp space in the corner of a new complex of town houses. Not exactly a space where they relished spending time…
They wanted us to create a beautiful space they could enjoy in the evenings and at weekends. Emily and Karen wanted us to reinvent the area to provide somewhere they could sit, eat and socialise. We presented a rough sketch design of the garden and explained some of our ideas. They loved it and commissioned us to get to work ASAP. Very few tweaks were made to our original designs.
Our designs involved adding a circular piece of composite decking created from recycled plastic and wood fibre (non slip and mould resistant, therefore really built to last). This addition slotted nicely into the available space and we lit it up with long-lasting pretty LED lights around an area designed for a firebowl. As a final touch, we added a sociable seating area.
There were two corners flanking the decking so we planted these with lush, shade-tolerant perennials and vibrant mini shrubs, then we placed little spotlights in these shrubs to illuminate the whole area. All of the colours and plants (ferns, azaleas, pieris) we chose were carefully selected to work in harmony with the contemporary design of the house, and the effect is a combination of delightful little details which all contribute to an extremely pleasing outside space. Space that’s now being used all the time!
What our customers say...
“We had no idea what to do with our awkward outside space and asked Luke to come up with some ideas to make the garden more inviting and usable. We are thrilled with our new garden and would not hesitate in recommending Luke and his team to anyone who wants to transform their garden – big or small.”
